Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center

CLIENT

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center is a 140 bed facility just south of Reno, Nevada. In 2005, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center opened a new three story 352,000 square foot facility on an 80 acre campus. Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital handles over 30,000 outpatient visits per year and manages several clinics in the Carson City, Dayton, Minden/Gardnerville and Tahoe markets.

PROBLEM

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center had a negative adjustment to their net Accounts Receivable of nearly $6,000,000 just prior to re|solution's engagement. This created both a crisis for the bondholders that financed the new hospital and hospital management who thought they had just finished a profitable year that now turned into a significant loss. CTRMC management embarked on a process to find any and all opportunities for cash and bottom line improvement.


RESOLUTION

re|solution was engaged in November 2006. All non-Medicare insurance accounts over 90 days were assigned to re|solution. The initial placement was nearly $9,000,000 and 5,000 claims. re|solution assigned 9 on-site analysts to work on these accounts using Carson Tahoe Retional Medical Center's computer system.


RESULTS

As the internal business office staff of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center no longer had to chase older aged accounts and with re|solution's focus on the over 90 day accounts, cash receipts in January and February 2007 increased dramatically. The number of accounts has dropped toward an internally manageable level. During the first quarter of 2007, cash collections were 40% higher than cash collections for the same quarter in the prior year. The significant increase in monthly cash collections was due in large part to re|solution's efforts in collecting aged receivables that were over 90 days. In addition, re|solution provided value added services for Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center's business office staff such as training in billing and follow up techniques and a detailed revenue cycle assessment. The hospital administration was ecstatic about the increased cash flow.
